What is SCA?

Part of the recent EU Payments Service Directive aims to increase consumer rights in payments and improve customer security.

Strong Customer Authentication (SCA) is a set of requirements that aim to enhance customer security, and reduce fraud, when making payments online.

Why is SCA important?

SCA adds an extra layer of security when customers make a payment online and usually requires “two-factor authentication” - essentially a second form of validation to prove that the customer really is who they say they are.

SCA is required each time a customer accesses their payment account online or initiates an electronic payment transaction. However, it will only apply to the first payment in a set of recurring payments for the same amount - so the recurring monthly cost of your DenGro subscription will only need to be authorised once, unless the subscription charge changes.

What’s changed

Your DenGro payment journey may look a little different as we’ll need you to give permission whenever you make the first payment for your DenGro subscription - or if your regular monthly subscription cost changes.

If authorisation is needed for a new payment, DenGro will send you an SCA Payment Authorisation email. Simply click on the link in the email you’ll receive from DenGro, and follow the instructions to confirm your identity and approve the new payment.
